Our Story...
The story begins in 2022… in a bar called Fingers in Edinburgh and a night when Tom tried to recreate the Hugh Grant ‘Notting Hill’ moment where his character, Will attempts to jump a fence into an upmarket private garden in the hope his actions would impress Julia Roberts.

As it turns out, when Tom tried this, he almost broke his ankle jumping over the fence, which included spikes, and then discovered Emma was all too happy to leave him in the garden alone.
Sometime later, Tom managed to escape the garden after digging a tunnel with his bare hands eventually leading him out onto Edinburgh’s Princes Street, finding Emma in time for Christmas drinks in Edinburgh’s famous Christmas markets.
This time, Tom tried something a little more enticing for Emma to join in with, the Helter Skelter. Tom paid the £1 fee and away they went. As if the Helter Skelter didn’t make the two of them dizzy enough, they then sipped on mulled wine, with added rum for the rest of the evening.
Ever since, Emma & Tom’s relationship has blossomed, fuelled by Tom’s willingness to accept he his only a stop gap before Emma finally meets Rafa Nadal. Ironically, with Tom’s work in tennis, he himself may one day introduce Emma to her future husband.
Thankfully, over the last two and half years however, Rafa has failed to appear, despite Tom’s best efforts to play matchmaker when flying Emma to Las Vegas to watch Rafa play tennis in the Netflix Slam.
Sadly, Rafa’s schedule meant he was unable to meet Emma post-match, much to her disappointment, so they spent their time fighting jet lag through pub crawls along the famous Strip, making and losing money at the roulette tables, visiting the neon sign museum, attending Madonna concerts and Emma’s highlight, taking a tour of the Allegiant Stadium where the Las Vegas Raiders play.
At one point during that trip to Vegas, it was the one day a woman can traditionally propose to a man, and as Emma & Tom walked past the famous Las Vegas chapel, Emma remarked “I could see myself just getting married there”.
This sent Tom into a spate of nerves, as he already knew his plan…. In a couple of months, he would be making up a story of why he needs to be in Dubai only to use the trip to go engagement ring shopping.
Thank goodness the Vegas pub crawl and roulette tables quickly distracted Emma from popping the question.
Four months later, Emma’s birthday is upon us and celebrations are taking place in Champagne, France. Emma’s closest friends and family are in attendance, plus Tom has managed to sneak a few of his own in… providing him with useful teammates for the plan he has hatched.
Tom had always planned to propose on the third day in Champagne, meaning the first two days his nerves had to be kept in check. The endless bottles of Veuve Clicquot helped with that.
The big moment had to be the third day as that was the only day where a ‘free hour’ had been positioned into the schedule, formed by Emma. It was this ‘free hour’ Tom would use for the proposal.
Over the first two days of staying at the Loisium Hotel in Champagne, Tom did many recces for what the perfect location in the hotel’s grounds for such a question would be. Only to discover hotel room balconies overlooked every square inch of the gardens.
Luckily, a nearby chapel which boasted stunning views of the vineyards and most importantly, seemed to be a location not frequented by many, if any, became the obvious choice.
And so, with the ‘free hour’ almost upon us and fresh from a morning tour of the Mercier champagne house, (where Tom took full advantage of the free glasses of champagne to hold back nerves) the time had come.
Two years had passed since Tom's lonely night in a private Edinburgh garden, but ever since a loving relationship had been built. Laughs, hikes, weekend adventures, holidays in Dubai, Vegas and Mallorca, airport pick-ups, quiet nights in, house renovations, London nights out, Edinburgh nights out, weekends in Glasgow, Newcastle and the Borders and now, in Champagne, the most important question Tom has ever asked is about to be spoken.
The ‘free hour’ had arrived. Only a select few knew of its significance.
And it’s at this moment, Emma suggests that everyone should, instead of relaxing during the ‘free hour’, just get together, go to the pub and “crack on with the bubbles”.
Little did Emma know, for once, Tom really wasn’t keen on the pub!
"Absolutely not” Tom replied, "I’ve been looking forward to my one ‘free hour’ this weekend and I plan to use it".
With the drinking plan on hold, Tom then raced up the hill to the chapel. Once arrived it was silent, no one to be seen for miles, perfect.
And thanks to a clever plan for Emma and family to arrive at the Chapel, Tom waited patiently with a bottle of champagne, two glasses and a bag full of nerves.
The sound of a car driving towards the chapel appears in the distance. Emma is on her way, for what has been billed as ‘a great chance to get a family photo’… The time is now.
At this point, 300 cyclists that resembled the Tour de France cycled up to Tom’s position and stopped, admiring the view. In a panic, Tom quickly told them all to bugger off, hurrying them away before Emma arrived.
With the 2024 Tour de France safely on their way, Emma & Tom are alone, looking out over the vineyards, and the question of marriage is asked. The answer is “yes! But please, get up off your knee!”
The celebrations begin, continuing into the night, and then onto Paris.
Since that weekend in the summer of 2024, Emma & Tom have continued doing the things they love together. Attending Wimbledon and music festivals, gardening, working hard, spending time with family & friends, cooking, finding great restaurants and bars, relaxing in Mallorca and of course wedding planning.
And all of a sudden, here we all are.
Whilst we celebrate in Mallorca, Emma & Tom would like to wish you a brilliant time in their favourite place. Just watch out for the free pours of rum and the lure of a Rosa Blanca at 10am.
